From DaVinci’s sublime studies to Michelangelo’s muscular creations, the study of anatomy has inspired extraordinary achievements in the history of art. We can see that their work was shaped by a deep knowledge of the human machine and that this zest for learning led directly to works of absolute mastery. This workshop will explore the style and substance of figure drawing viewed through the prism of human anatomy. Liberace’s morning demonstration includes a detailed description of the underlying forms that influence the patterns of light and dark. The anatomical structures of the body are described using the traditional technique of red chalk, which is the quintessential master tool for describing the warmth and energy of the human body.
