The course goal is to develop and strengthen students' intuition and analytical skills. Students learn the principles of drawing through a series of 20-minute and multiple-day poses with the figure. The short poses drive students to select and filter information quickly, a process helping them overcome inhibitions that often hinder the ability to see clearly and express freely. When they attain proficiency at this stage, they move into the long poses where the focus shifts from quick gestural drawings to careful, analytical study of the proportional, value and edge relationships in the figure.

Jafang Lu was awarded a Merit Scholarship at the Art Students League of New York. She holds a Bachelors of Art from the City College of New York University.
